The Media is Biased with ASUP Strike, Unlike ASUU Strike:
FOR some months now, members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have been on strike, and to my surprise, not many people are aware of this.
In my own opinion, the media is to blame for this. During the last Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, there was hardly a day it was not mentioned in the media. The newspapers were always reporting the updates of the strike, while the ASUU president was always on the television, stating the Union’s grouse with the government. It was as a result of this hype that the Federal Government succumbed to the university lecturers’ demands. Unfortunately, this has not been the case since ASUP lecturers embarked on their strike to protest their working conditions. I have only seen it in a newspaper once, and the broadcast media are simply not reporting it.
This is greatly unfair. I hope the media would take it up from today. The way the media followed the ASUU strike contributed in no small measure to government acceding to their demands. I hope the media would also come to the aid of the polytechnic lecturers as well.
The government should also accede to the request of the polytechnic lecturers. What is good for the goose, is also sauce for the gander.
