LEARN Africa showered cash and other prizes on secondary school students that posted brilliant results in the 2014 National Examination Council (NECO) examination.
LEARN Africa publishers, formerly known as Longman Nigeria, under its Education Development Foundation showered cash and other prizes on the best students in the May/June 2014 National Examinations Council (NECO) to encourage learning among the country’s youths.

At the award ceremony in Abuja yesterday, Nder Sesugh Samuel of the Vaatia College Makurdi, Benue State, who was overall best student in the examinations, was given N100,000 cash, a certificate, a trophy, a laptop computer, a plaque and a smart phone alongside other prizes.
A teacher in his school, Timothy Terna Mande, was adjudged the best teacher and given N100,000 cash, a plaque and a certificate.
The second and third overall best students, Adesokan Adediran Sakirudeen and Raji Oluwatobi Quadri, both of St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Idimu Lagos, were also given cash and other awards.
Also given awards were Ghazali Abdulwasiu, Awwal Abdullahi Muhammed and Omotayo Olalekan Joseph who came first, second and third respectively in Niger State. Nder Sesugh Samuel, Ogboo Tony Francis Ifeanyi and Obuseki Osakpolor Tolulope won in Benue State.
Paul David Chidera, Tsaku Esson Emmanuel and Musa Aaron Elang won in Nasarawa State while Okeke Kaosisochukwu Victoria, Ike-Okonkwo Adobi Chidera and Ebito Dima-Abasi Nya won in FCT and Michael Omeiza Michael, Makanjuola Rotimi David and Lawal Rasak Oluwatosin won in Kogi State.
Chairman of the foundation, Chief Emeke Iwerebon who was represented by the Publishing Director, Gbola Aiyedun and Alhaji Hassan Bala, said the award instituted in February 2012 was among other things, to encourage students’ commitment to learning, celebrate scholarship and healthy rivalry, appreciate teachers for their hard work and dedication to duty and recognise schools that provide the right atmosphere for effective teaching and learning.
“We will continue to update our textbooks in order to align them with changes in the curriculum requirements, introduce new publications to meet new demand and come up with exciting initiatives to support teaching and learning,” he said. (Daily Trust)
