UNN New Vice Chancellor

The new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, has unveiled a five-point agenda for the University, which he said would position the Institution as an academic giant and a pace-setter among universities in third world countries.

Addressing the university community during his inauguration as the 14th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria at the Margaret Ekpo Convocation Arena, Tuesday, Prof. Ozumba said his administration would advance a convincing case for the UNN in  both National and International environment, harness abundant human resources in the University to achieve a shared vision, and articulate a strategic plan informed by the role and responsibilities  of a University system in the 21st century.

He added that his administration would identify with students by encouraging official involvement in students-led activities, and consolidate on the achievements of the University over the year, in order to maximize its contribution to the society as well as attract resources that would enable the Institution realize the mission of its founding fathers.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the execution of the plans would bring to fruition the vision of his administration which is “to position the University to become an academic giant, the pace-setter among universities in the Third World, in the quality of its scientific research, the level of its innovative teaching, and the robustness of its community service”.

Further he said his administration would uphold positive values, follow due process, ensure absolute discipline and give recognition to competence, transparency and accountability in the discharge of its duties.

The new Vice-Chancellor praised his predecessor, Prof. Bartho Okolo for his positive contributions to the development of the University, and for ensuring a hitch-free transition to the new administration. He said his administration would consolidate on the achievement of the past administration in order to take the University to   greater heights.

Prof. Ozumba therefore solicited the co-operation of all stakeholders in the University to enable him translate his vision for the University into reality.
