TETFUND Spends N27bn on Overseas Scholarship Awards


Tertiary Education Trust Fund has spent N27bn on overseas scholarship awards for Nigerian student and also 30,000 projects in our tertiary institutions nationwide. TETFUND will soon restore the lost glory of the Nigerian educational system.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has spent N27bn on overseas scholarship awards for Nigerian students, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, TETFUND, Dr. Musa Babayo, has said.

The organisation, according to him, has also delivered over 30,000 projects in tertiary institutions in the country.

Babayo spoke while receiving an award presented to him by the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group, in Abuja.

He stated that the TETFUND was adding value to the education sector by building capacity for national development.

He said that various countries, including Ghana and Sierra Leone, had visited Nigeria to understudy the TETFUND, adding that Ghana had set up a similar agency to enhance its education sector.

Babayo said, “TETFUND has been contributing to scholarship and the development of education sector in the country and, so far, we have spent N27bn on overseas scholarship awards for Nigerian students and we have also executed over 30,000 projects in our tertiary institutions nationwide.

“I dedicate this award to all TETFUND staff, the education sector and to Mr. President for the opportunity to add value to the education sector.”

The Executive Director, ISDMG, Dr. Chima Amadi, in his address at the event, commended TETFUND and 23 other winners for their su[pport for the education sector.

He said, “How can we forget the revolutionary intervention activities of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the role it played and still plays in the fight to restore the lost glory of the Nigerian educational system? The organisations that won the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group award have shown that the Nigerian spirit, when properly kindled, is insurmountable.” (Punch)
