University of Benin, UNIBEN in collaboration with the African /Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi, Kenya, Ph.D Programme in Economics admission form for the 2014/2015 academic session is out.

UNIBEN Postgraduate Admission

The University of Benin in collaboration with the African /Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi, Kenya, wishes to announce the admission of students into the collaborative Ph.D Programme in Economics for the 2014/2015 session. The programme is designed to train a cadre of highly qualified teachers and researchers in Economics. It is a part of a larger Programme designed to provide world-class training o economists by African University for countries in Sub-Sahara Africa.

ELIGILIBILITY:

The programme at the University of Benin is open to nationals of English-speaking West Africa Countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia). Candidates may be self-sponsored or sponsored by public sector institutions and/or research organizations engaged in research and training in Economics and those whose primary mandate is economic management in eligible countries.

THE PROGRAMME:

The Ph.D. Programme is based on course work. To qualify for an award of a Ph.D degree by the University of Benin, candidates will be required to:

· Take both compulsory and elective courses in Economics at the Ph.D. level and pass examination in these courses;
· Pass a comprehensive examination at the end of their course work;
· Write a Ph.D. thesis under supervision and undergo oral examination.

WHERE TENABLE:
The programme is tenable at the University of Benin. Successful candidates will take courses in two Universities in Africa and write and defend their theses at the University of Benin.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Entry in the collaborative programme shall be on a competitive basis. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

· A good First Degree (First Class or Second Class Upper or its equivalent) in Economics from recognized University.
· A Masters Degree in Economics with a course work component from a recognized University (M.Sc. or M.Phil).
· A weighted averae score of 60% or a letter average ‘B’ in the Masters Degree.
· Attend and pass selection tests and an oral examination to be conducted by the department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Benin.

Possession of other qualifications such as the Graduate record examination (GRE) scores in Economics, Literary and/or mathematics aptitude tests shall be added advantages.

Transcripts
Candidates should request their former Universities/Institutions to forward their academic transcript(s) to the “Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies”, to reach him not later than 8 weeks from the date of this publication.
Applications of candidates whose transcripts are not forwarded to the school shall not be processed.

Referees Reports
Candidates should request their referees to mail reports on them directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies. Applications shall not be processed unless the referee reports are available.

METHOD OF APPLICATION: GENERAL

Candidates are to purchase application forms online with valid VERVE OR MASTER ATM BANK CARD from any commercial bank in Nigeria for the sum of N12,050.00.

The Application form must be correctly filled with all information required before submitting online and thereafter printed out from the UNIBEN Website, www.uniben.edu.

All application processes must be completed by 30th September., 2014.

Only candidate given admission into the various Pg programmes are to proceed to pay the total amount of Non-Refundable Acceptance fees itemised below.

Development levy – 15,000.00
MTN Net Library – 1,000.00
Total – 45,000.00

Note: Acceptance fee must be paid before candidates can be cleared.
