UNN Executes 400 Projects With TETFund, IGR in 14 Years:

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Prof. Bartho Okolo, on Wednesday said the institution had executed over 400 projects between 2010 t0 2014.

Okolo said funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, the Federal Government capital allocations and Internally Generated Revenue were deployed in executing the university projects.

The UNN vice chancellor made this disclosure while rendering account at the South-East Stakeholders’ Forum of the TETFund/Capital Interventions in Higher Institutions in Enugu.

Present at the forum were the Education Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike: Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Dr. MacJohn Nwaobiala; Chairman of TETFund, Dr. Musa Babayo; and Acting Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mallam Aliyu Na’Iya.

Okolo said UNN accessed N2.6bn from the Education Trust Fund and another N1.7bn in capital allocations over the period.

He said the receipts were from total TETFund allocation of N7.8bn and capital allocation of N3.5bn over the four-year period. “TETFund, over time, bridges shortfalls between allocation and releases as institutions execute projects and show proof,” said Okolo.

According to him, the UNN executed 179 projects with TETFund allocations over the period covering physical infrastructure, teaching and learning environment and academic work.

Okolo said, “There were 20 construction projects, six procurements, 39 scholarships for higher studies while the Fund paid for 115 conferences and workshops attended by staff of the institution.

“Of the 17 projects executed with capital allocations, 15 were construction projects covering physical infrastructure. Two were procurements for laboratory equipment.” (PUNCH)
