VC Commends Jonathan for Transformation Agenda In Education Sector:

The Vice-Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umuahia, Prof. Hilary Edeoga, on Friday commended President Goodluck Jonathan for ‘’the unquantifiable transformation’’ going on in the nation’s education sector.

Edeoga spoke at the institution’s 21st matriculation ceremony in Umuahia.

He said that the nation’s university system would remain grateful to President Jonathan for his genuine commitment to improving the sector.

“Posterity will not forget all your efforts toward repositioning all levels of education in Nigeria for the better,’’ he said.

The vice-chancellor restated the commitment of the university toward the welfare of the students.

He said that the university had defied daunting challenges to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning, including the provision of accommodation and lecture theatres.

“I wish to assure you that more hostels and lecture theatres will be provided to meet with the growing population of our university,’’ he said.

Edeoga said the university had zero tolerance for all acts of indiscipline.

He, therefore, charged the students to shun all acts of indiscipline, including rape, gangsterism, cultism, extortion and examination malpractice, among other social vices that could disrupt their studies.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 4,000 students took part in the matriculation. (NAN)
