Ajimobi to Reinstate Over 1,000 Sacked Teachers

Some months ago, the Oyo State Government fired over 1,000 secondary school teachers for falsifying their ages and having irregular credentials, these teachers have been reinstated back to their position after persistent appeals from the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and stakeholders in the education sector.

However, while addressing the teachers at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, Governor Abiola Ajimobi said that his administration decided to review their cases to temper justice with mercy. He stated that he was raising a fresh committee to, again, review the cases of the affected teachers, adding that his government would ensure that the ages of those who falsified their ages would be regularized and then, they would be finally reinstated. For those already due for retirement, the governor said that they would be allowed to retire and paid their entitlements.

Some of the affected teachers admitted that they falsified their ages and pleaded for pardon. They pledged never to be involved in fraudulent acts again.
