UNIMAID Boko Haram Threat: Evacuation of Kwara Students Stalled:

The Kwara State government did not evacuate its indigenes studying at the University of Maiduguri as planned, following a plea by the institution’s management that security has been beefed up in and around the school, Daily Trust gathered.

The state government had last week sent a delegation to Maiduguri to evacuate its indigenes from the university following increased insurgency in the state. There are about 650 Kwara indigenes currently study at the university.

However, the delegation arrived the state last weekend without the students, it was gathered. The university authorities reportedly impressed it on the delegation that the university was about commencing the end of semester examination.

Chairman, state chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Ibrahim Abdulrazak Jeje, who led the evacuation team comprising six mobile policemen briefed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Alhaji Aliyu Opakunle on the outcome of their visit to Maiduguri.

According to Jeje, the university appreciated the concern of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed as Kwara was the only state that had so far sent delegation to evacuate students from the school.

Speaking on behalf of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), Comrade Ajadi Muideen said Kwara students in Maiduguri registered their gratitude to the governor for sending a delegation to bring them home.

The commissioner, on his part, said it was not the wish of the governor to evacuate the students from Maiduguri, but that the action was taken based on fears expressed by the students. (Daily Trust)
