FG to Fix Nigeria Education with Summit Recommendations

FG to Fix Nigeria Education with Summit Recommendations:

The supervising Minister of National Planning (NPC), Mr. Bashir Yuguda, has said the Federal Government will not dump recommendations of the just concluded 20th Nigerian Economic Summit which focused on reforming education to make it responsive to the needs of the economy.

Speaking in Abuja during the summit’s closing press briefing, he said there had been useful suggestions on how to radically change the face of education in the country. He said the Federal Executive Council (FEC) would favourably review the recommendations and ensure its implementation.

Yuguda also recalled that the outcome of the previous summit which centred on the agricultural sector had guided the federal government in initiating many new programmes in agriculture.

He said: “The young farmer’s entrepreneurial programme otherwise known as Nagropreneurs, the E-wallet system, creation of special facilities for increased funding for agriculture as well as considerations for the establishment of commodities exchange and export processing zones were some of the recommendations at the previous summits which government had found valuable”.

He assured stakeholders that efforts of participants of the recent summit would not go down the drain.
According to him, the idea of quality education being central to transforming Nigeria into one of the most competitive economies in the world in the 21st Century was consistent with the vision of the Transformation Agenda for the sub-sector.

The Minister, in a statement by his Special Adviser on media, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, further said government had in the past shown reasonable commitment in collaborating with NESG in economic policy formulations, adding that this year’s own will not be an exception. (This Day)
