FUNAAB Becomes 1st African Authorised Learning Partner for CWNP:
Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State has become the first African Authorised Learning Partner for the International Centre for Professional Development.
Being an ALP partner makes it possible for the university to utilise Certified Wireless Network Professionals’ official student courseware and Certified Wireless Network Trainers to deliver training classes and create a learning hub for IT professionals in Africa.
A Senior System Analyst in the university and pioneer Centre Manager for ICPD, Lawrence Kazeem, made this known in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Monday.
Kazeem said, “I worked three years to become an ALP. I am honoured to achieve this title for my university. We shall make the ALP a learning hub for Africa so that we can educate IT professionals on our continent and provide them with practical training. We also hope to use ALP as a platform for wider advertising about our CWNP training classes in FUNAAB”.
Meanwhile, the President of CWNP, Brad Crump, has congratulated the university and its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, on the recognition.
Crump said, “The ICPD’s expertise on wireless networks and passion to educate IT professionals in Africa shows that the FUNAAB centre will be an asset to CWNP and professionals across the globe.”
CWNP is the recognised industry standard for enterprise Wi-Fi certification and training. Its certifications cover the full range of technologies underlying all enterprise Wireless Local Area Network products. It offers four levels of WLAN certification and prepares IT professionals to specify, design and manage wireless LAN systems, regardless of the vendor solution utilised and has clients in more than 150 countries and authorised training partners.
In a related development, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Mopelola Idowu, has won the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future 2014-2015 Fellowship.
Her selection followed what is described as competitive process from over 500 other applicants.
By the award, she is now a Schlumberger Foundation Fellow, comprising 405 other women pursuing scientific research from 68 countries.
Idowu, a specialist in Physical Chemistry, said with the fellowship, she would carry out a research at the University of Michigan, United States of America, to develop Multi-Chromo Phone System.
She added that the offer would ensure a better relationship between FUNAAB and foreign universities for the benefit of members of staff and students. (Punch)
