Graduate Drags DELSU to Court Over NYSC Mobilization

Graduate drags Delta State University (DELSU) to court over refusal to mobilise her for the one-year compulsory NYSC programme.

A female, graduate of the Department of Agricultural Education, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Madamedon Endurance, has dragged her alma mater before a High Court over refusal to mobilise her for the one-year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). 

Miss Madamedon, with Matriculation Number, FOE/08/09/152571, has requested, through her lawyer, damages of N12 million for delaying her from serving Nigeria after completing her three-year programme in 2012.

The plaintiff in a Suit No. HeI/24/2014 filed on her behalf at the High Court of Delta State of Nigeria in the Isiokolo Judicial Division Holden at Isiokolo by her attorney, F.J. Atie, is praying the court to compel the first defendant, Delta State University and the second defendant, the vice chancellor of the  institution, to clear her, “having met all her academic requirements in order for her to embark on her National Youth Service immediately, “after being denied for three consecutive batches between 2012 and 2013 despite being listed for the programme.”

According to her, “there was no discrimination or segregation of any kind against the University of Benin (UINBEN),” where she obtained a Diploma in Agricultural Economics in 2004/2005 Session which qualified her to study Agricultural Education in DELSU.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the authorities of DELSU had been served the court notice, though no date has been fixed for hearing.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of DELSU, Mr Edward Agbure, when contacted on phone, said he was not aware of Miss Madamedon’s case, adding that he would contact the legal unit of the institution for confirmation and get back to Nigerian Tribune in three days. (Tribune)
