The Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof John Obafunwa, has promised that his leadership will continue to ensure a stable academic calendar in the institution.

This came as he urged the students to be proud of the university.

The VC spoke at the end-of-the-year party the university organised for its students last Wednesday.

According to Obafunwa, the authorities of the school are committed to ensuring that the institution does not witness any further academic disruption.

He said, “Agreed that we still have internal differences and issues, we shall continue to interact with both members of staff and students to resolve our problems.

“This management is particularly interested in having a stable academic calendar. I am glad that we are maintaining this. We shall continue to ensure that people graduate when they are supposed to graduate. In this way, we shall continue to attract students to the university.

“By September this year, we will be able to say goodbye to 2014/2015 academic session and by October, we would have taken off for the 2015/2016 session.”

On the get-together, the VC said the essence was to create a forum for greater interaction and socialisation among the students and the school authorities.

According to him, the authorities want to further show the world that the university is one big family.

Urging the students to be proud of the institution, Obafunwa noted that the school had excelled in many academic fields. “We are the best in a number of disciplines in the country and so we should all be proud of the university.”

Meanwhile, the Student Union President, Mr. Nurudeen Yusuf, has hailed the VC for initiating the event, saying it will give the students a sense of belonging.
