NANS Split to Factions Over Petroleum Minister Probe

NANS Split to Factions Over Petroleum Minister Probe:

The National Association of Nigerian Students may have been split into two factions following criticisms against the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke.

Already, the current leadership of NANS has called on the public to disregard any allegation made against the Minister by a former deputy Senate President of NANS, John Shima.

A statement issued on Thursday by the President of NANS, Yinka Gbadebo and Senate President, Maxwell Soye, decried series of attacks launched on her by Shima.

The association also urged Nigerians not to always assume that every government official was corrupt adding that harboring such a belief against public officials was not healthy for the nation.

NANS said, “Not all government officials are corrupt. We must change the way we see people in government. There are a lot of government officials in this country that are doing their best to make the country a better place. We should not be too hasty in judging public officials.

“The point is we can see improvement in the oil and gas sector since her appointment. The incessant problem of fuel scarcity has abated, except for the artificial scarcity been created by saboteurs.”

Commenting specifically on the reports published in one of the national dailies against the minister, the association said, “we are appalled by a report in a national newspaper by an expelled former deputy Senate President of NANS. I blame a section of the public for promoting people and those who go about in the name of NANS to do strange things. Anybody who relates with Shima, the expelled former deputy Senate President of NANS does so at his or her own risk.

“Shima was impeached and expelled from the organisation last year at NANS Senate meeting held at the University of Port Harcourt for anti-NANS activities and acts of gross misconduct in the name of NANS.”
