The Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Abdallah Adamu, last weekend disclosed that 12 out of 5,975 graduating degree students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) made first class honours this year.
Speaking during a press briefing ceremony last weekend ahead of the NOUN convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdallah Adamu said the university has 224,000 students out of which 5,975 will be graduating at the event adding that the graduands spread across the eight faculties of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor said he has confidence in the quality of students of the university, saying that there was no doubt that graduates of NOUN have the ability to go places.
He said there was no basis for discrimination against graduates of the institution since it met all the requisite academic minimum benchmark set by the National Universities Commission and all the programmes approved by the Commission.
According to him, NUC has vowed to sanction any university that refused admission to NOUN graduate for further studies on the basis of certificate. “NOUN certificate is rock-solid,” he said.
The NOUN VC said prisoners who want to study at the university would not be charged tuition fees.
“If a prisoner wants to study in noun, it is free of charge. We feel while they are there, they should not be denied education. But once he or she is out of prison they will pay,” he said.
On rejection of NOUN law students by the Nigerian Law School and the mandatory one-year, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, the Vice-Chancellor said the issues were being resolved and that very soon the students would be admitted into Law School while those qualified for Service would be appropriately mobilised for national service.
He said the university had reduced the incidences of missing results after developing its own independent web portal following the termination of the agreement with an IT company that developed and managed the previous portal.
