NSUK Gets New VC - Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma


Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).

Governor Almakura Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State acting on the powers vested on him by the laws establishing Nasarawa State University as Visitor has approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma as Vice-Chancellor of the University. The appointment takes effect from Wednesday 8th October, 2014.

A press statement which was signed by the Permanent Secretary (Cabinet Affairs and Special Services), Abubakar Sadiq Ishaq on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, reads, as follows: “After due consultations with the Governing Council of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and in exercise of the powers conferred on him vide paragraph 4(1) of the First Schedule of the State University Law, 2001, His Excellency, Umaru Tanko Almakura, the Governor of Nasarawa State and Visitor to the University has approved the appointment of Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma as the Vice-Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The appointment takes effect from Wednesday, 8th October, 2014. Born on 26th September, 1965, Muhammad Akaro Mainoma is a Professor of Accounting. He was at various times Dean of Faculties of the University of Abuja; Kaduna State University and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Until his present appointment, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma was the acting Vice-Chancellor of the State University, Keffi.”

It will be recalled that advertisement calling for applications to fill the vacant position of the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University was released in September, 2014 on the instruction of the Governing Council. Subsequently, the Council met on October 2nd and 3rd, 2014 for the interview of short listed candidates. As provided by the Laws of the University, three names were forwarded to the Visitor upon which Prof. M. A. Mainoma was appointed. The new Vice-Chancellor is the 3rd substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The appointment is for period of four years in the first instance. The Vice-Chancellor has since assumed duties.
