Ogun Students Protest Fees Hike, Storm Amosun’s Office:

tasued protest

Students in Ogun State higher institutions under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State chapter have called for reduction in their school fees. The students in their hundreds stormed the Oke Mosan office of Senator Ibikunle Amosun yesterday to register their displeasure over the fees.

Their leader, Falola Ahmed in a statement condemned the current fees saying it was outrageous and illogical for government to be charging hundreds of thousands in fees.

“Presently, Ogun State tertiary institutions’ fees are outrageous, absurd and illogical. We cannot keep mute pretending all is well. Any Nigerian government that does not pursue free education at all levels is Nigerian students’ enemy number one,” Falola said.

The student leader wondered why those that benefited from Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s free education policy would turn around to implement anti-students policy.

“It is highly sympathetic that those who benefitted from Awo’s free education policy are inflicting pain on us today,” he said.

Responding to the grievances of the students, the secretary to the state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa appealed to the students to remain calm saying machinery was in motion to address some of the concerns of the students. (Leadership)
