Aluta Spirit: Riot in Bowen University [Pix]

Bowen University students have displayed their “ALUTA SPIRIT” and that they are no longer students of “Glorified secondary school”. There was a somewhat violent protest by the students this evening in response to some unfavourable rules laid down by the new Vice Chancellor.

From a source, we gathered that there was a hike in school fees, meal time was fixed, students were asked to be taking their coolers to the cafeteria, all students were asked to leave the dormitories by 6am and not return until 4pm even if they don’t have lectures among other rules that could inconvenience the students.

The students vandalised some school properties, some Boys hostels were deserted, cars were vandalised, school gate was open wide.

Our source also confirmed that the school authority invited the police and tear gas was released to help calm things down.

A press release from the school authorities as to the happening is expected to come out later in the day.
