Police apprehend four secondary school students suspected to be cultists while coming from where they were initiated.
FOUR teenage secondary school students suspected to be cult members have been arrested by detectives in Ondo State.
They were arrested by a Police patrol team at about 7 a.m. at Emure-Ile junction along the Akure‑Owo expressway while coming from where they were initiated in Owo.
The suspects are said to be students of St Francis High School in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Police source said the suspects, now in police detention, include Lawal Lateef, 18; Felix Victor, 17; Nsoani Stephen, 18 and Festus Francis, 18.
The suspects reportedly confessed that they were invited by a cult group for initiation in Owo.
They were said to have confessed that they left Akure for Owo at about 9 p.m. the previous day they were arrested and were in the thick bush for three hours for their initiation by the cult group.
Police sources told Vanguard that the suspects confessed that they were made to lick their blood after their index fingers were pierced with a sharp object and also to drink a prepared concoction.
They were also said to have been made to swear to an oath of membership of the cult group and asked to recite their code.
Contacted, the Police image maker in the state, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the arrest of the suspects but said they were yet to reveal the cult group that invited them to Owo for initiation.
He said some incriminating objects were recovered from them and that the matter has been referred to the state CID for further investigation. Ogodo assured that the suspects would soon be charged to court. (Vanguard)
