Why ASUU Refused to Participate in Confab – Fagge:

National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) Dr. Nasir Fagge has said that the union refused to participate in the on-going national conference because it believes that it is a diversion from the many challenges facing the country.

Fagge, who was one of the discussants at the first African Solidarity Day with Cuba with the theme: Struggle against imperialism: the Cuban Experience and the Lessons to People’s Movement in Afrıca, in Lagos, said ASUU cannot be part of the “diversion”.

“National conference is just a diversion from the series of challenges Nigeria is facing and that is why ASUU is not part of it,” Fagge said.

On the issue of insecurity, Fagge said he believes that original Boko Haram insurgents have been dealt with and that what the nation is currently witnessing are crises instigated by “imperialist collectives” to ensure that Nigerians do not come out for 2015 elections.

“But we must resist them. We must ensure that their wishes are not fostered on us. For us in ASUU, we are ready to partake in any struggle that will make Nigeria better than it is today,” Fagge said. (Daily Trust)
