UNILORIN VC Advocates Computer Centres Replace TV Viewing Centres
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has canvassed the conversion of the football viewing centres across the country to computer skill acquisition centres.
Prof. Ambali, who made this suggestion last Wednesday (June 11, 2014), when he received the members of the Executive Committee of the Ilorin Emirate Forum (IEF) in his office, said in today’s world, the youths need to be well grounded in the use of the computer to be relevant in the scheme of things..
Pointing out that computer literacy is key to securing admission into tertiary institutions, the Vice-Chancellor called on the Education Committee of the IEF to use ensure that computer literacy is achieved at all lower levels of education.
Prof. Ambali thanked the Forum for its objective assessment of the numerous achievements of the University of Ilorin, adding that IEF is a source of encouragement to the institution.
The Chairman of the Ilorin Emirate Forum, Engr. Alabi Oba Asaju, said the Executive Committee members were in the University to register their appreciation for the giant strides being recorded by the institution. He extolled the University for maintaining high standard in its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, while noting that the University is reputed for excellence in research, training and community development.
Engr. Asaju commended the University for being the first institution to introduce Computer Based Test (CBT), and for its paperless system, coupled with its employment drive. “We appreciate your palm tree plantation and celebrate your achievements. We want to encourage you to improve on your successes,” the Chairman said.
Members of the Ilorin Emirate Forum that accompanied the Chairman to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office included Alhaji Abdul Quadri O. Yahaya, General Secretary; Alhaji Saadu A. Balogun, Vice-Chairman; Alhaji Zulu A. Sulaiman and Alhaja Silifat Issa.
Others were Dr. M. S. Ajao, IEF Unilorin Chapter Vice-President; and Dr. Baba A. Alafara, IEF, Unilorin Chapter Secretary.
