Hundreds of parents of candidates seeking admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against the institution new admission policy. According to the protesters, the university has upped its cut-off to 250 marks against the recommended 180 marks by JAMB.

The candidates alleged that the authorities of university, in liaison with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, had rolled out a new admission procedure that prevented them from sitting the examination to secure admission to the university.

JAMB had at a meeting with educational stakeholders last week agreed that universities are to use the 180 benchmark as requirement for admission, while the polytechnics and colleges of education are to use 150.
But the University of Lagos management insisted that the cut-off mark for admission into the institution is 250.
The protest not only caused traffic jam at the entrance of the university, it later resulted in the forceful closure of the gate.
